There is a buzz in all over country, in favour and against The Kerala Story which claims to be inspired by the true events. It recalls the time of release of The Kashmir files. Both are films which presents a case or a story. Both the films claim reality in it and both the films carry the in it and that too in the beginning. Just to recall grammar rules: The is a definite article which is used in certain conditions/ before a noun which represents a whole class.
Hmmmm…. It seems the claim of definiteness propels all kinds of emotions (of shock, surprise, fear, gratitude, pain, anger and many more). It is but natural that these emotions are becoming reason of all the buzz.
Prime Minister, Narendra Modi came in full support of the movie. The lead actress Adah Sharma and the producer are thankful for PM’s positive gesture. The actress shares her emotions at her Instagram post. She writes, ” standing ovation in theatres, the honorable PM, mentioning our film #The Kerala Story. #Grateful.
Uttarakhand’s chief minister also came forward in favour of the movie. He watched the movie with family and few BJP leaders. He said that the film shows how terrorism is being spread in the country without the use of bombs and bullets. When asked about the film, Pushkar said, “The Kerala Story is very close to reality. He further said that the film discloses that how the girls are being brainwashed and converted. The film is proving to be very effective in introducing the reality and increasing public awareness against conversion and terrorism. He also shares his concern similar in context to the state in near future.
The CM said that it is decided to completely ban the forceful conversions in Uttarakhand and to prevent the conversions, the state government has made a strict law on religious conversions. There is a provision of rigorous imprisonment of up to 10 years for those who forcibly or induce convert. For conversion of a person, there is a provision of punishment of two to seven years and a fine of Rs 25,000. He said that the ban on religious conversion is being done only to save the culture and unique identity of Uttarakhand. The government is strict in identifying and removing encroachments on government land in Uttarakhand. Strict action will be taken against those who commit such acts as per rules.
However, Mamata Banerjee is quite furious and has decided to ban the movie citing the possibility of communal unrest. In response to this, the film makers appealed to the Supreme Court against the ban. In the petition, the film makers say that “despite the clearance from the central board of film certification, the movie has been banned in West Bengal.” The Supreme Court will hear the matter on May 12. Amidst the protest by Muslim groups in Tamil Nadu, the Tamil Nadu Multiplex Association decided not to screen the movie but did not ban.
Shabana Azami tweets against the ban. She tweets, ” Those who speak of banning #The Kerala Story are as wrong as those who wanted to ban Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaadha.
BJP-ruled states like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have decided to make the film tax-free so that more people can watch it.
Yogi AdityaNath tweets, “’The Kerala Story’ उत्तर प्रदेश में टैक्स फ्री की जाएगी”
The chief minister of Assam welcomed the release of The Kerala Story.
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap reacts to the ban of ‘The Kerala Story’ in West Bengal. “You agree with the film or not, be it propaganda, counterpropaganda, offensive or not, to ban it is just wrong.”
Social media and television media these days is full of reactions. Most of the social media users have supported the movie, some people are facing camera to tell their story related to similar such incidences of love jihad and atrocities on Hindu girls. There are few who reject the movie as merely a propaganda which has also reportedly triggered violence in a few areas of the country.
