Referring to Lord Ram and his Raghuvansh, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mehbooba Mufti said on Wednesday that the promise made by Indians to the original inhabitants of Jammu and Kashmir in 1947 is under test in the Supreme Court.

Talking to the media in the lawns of the apex court, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir said that the matter being heard by the Supreme Court is related to the people of India. He said, “This country cannot be run on majoritarianism. This country will run according to the Constitution. He also said that the issue of abrogation of Article 370 is related to the promise made to the people of India and the original inhabitants of Kashmir in 1947.

Mufti said, “We know what has happened to the institutions of the country. Luckily we still have some faith in the Supreme Court of this country. I want to appeal to them that the country believes in the principle of Raghukul Rit Sadaa Chali Aayee, Pran Jaye Par Vachan Na Jaye.”

Jammu and Kashmir’s special status ended:

On August 2, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had come to the apex court and said that he expected justice from it like any other Indian citizen. On that day, the top court began hearing petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370 that gave special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.

On August 5, 2019, the Center issued a notification to abrogate Article 370, ending the special status of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Several petitions challenging the abrogation of the provisions of Article 370 and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019 were referred to a constitution bench in 2019. In these petitions, the division of the erstwhile state into two union territories – Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh – has been challenged.
