Wild Orangutan Harnesses Medicinal Plant for Wound Healing

On Thursday, scientists reported that an orangutan was observed treating a wound with medicine sourced from a tropical plant, showcasing how certain animals endeavor to alleviate their ailments using natural remedies found in their environment.

Raku, a male Sumatran orangutan, suffered a wound on his right cheek. Scientists were astonished to witness him using a medicinal plant called akar kuning (Fibranaurea tinctoria) on his wound. This climbing vine is known for its analgesic properties.

After approximately 8 days of applying the chewed stems and leaves of the plant, the wound showed signs of healing. Within about a month, Raku made a full recovery.

These observations undeniably demonstrate the remarkable ingenuity of these magnificent animals.
