Dr.S Jaishankar On China:
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Saturday (January 13) that China should not expect to pursue normal relations with India amid the border standoff. He said at an event in Nagpur that diplomacy always goes on between countries and sometimes solutions to difficult situations do not come in a hurry.
He said, “There is no mutual agreement between India and China regarding the border. In such a situation, it was decided that neither side of the two countries will gather security forces on the border. Apart from this, both the sides will have to inform each other about their activities. We will also have to inform each other.”
Both countries made agreements:
Jaishankar said that both the countries had signed two agreements in this regard in 1993 and 1996. After this, earlier agreements were signed in 2005, 2006, 2012 and 2013. Under this, neither of the two sides can deploy security forces on the border. However, if CO plans to do so, it will have to inform it before the movement of its troops.
‘China violated the agreement’
According to news agency ANI, S Jaishankar said, “China violated this agreement in 2020 and deployed a large number of its troops on the Line of Actual Control (LAC), after which the Galwan incident occurred.”
‘Normal relationships cannot progress’
The minister said that he explained to the Chinese Foreign Minister that until a solution is found on the border, he should not expect other relations to move forward normally. It is not possible that on one hand you fight and on the other hand you keep doing business.
Jaishankar said that if they bring their soldiers in front of us, we will have to fight them. We did not initiate this, but if their soldiers are in front of us then we will have to protect ourselves.
