BEWARE! Uttarakhand is on Target of Drug Mafia

The Himalayan state of Uttarakhand is facing the challenge of drug abuse and on the target of the drug mafia. Almost all the drugs used for the purpose of drugs are being smuggled into the plains and hilly districts of the state. The illegal business of drugs is spreading rapidly in Uttarakhand. The most targeted are students and youth studying in schools, colleges and universities. The top 10 drug traffickers who have been trapped are the most active in these four districts: Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts.

According to the report of the Narcotics Control Bureau, Dehradun, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar and Haldwani have been the targets of the top-10 drug smugglers in the state. The smugglers caught here are accused of smuggling charas, ganja, heroin.

Students and youth studying in schools, colleges and universities are the most targeted by the illegal trade of drugs spreading rapidly in Uttarakhand. Dehradun known for Education Hub seems to be the most targeted due to its maximum occupancy of schools and colleges in the state. 

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has pledged to make Uttarakhand drug-free by 2025. Chief Minister Mr. Pushkar Singh Dhami appealed to the people of the state to cooperate in making Uttarakhand a drug-free state. He said that drugs are ruining the future of our youth. For a better future of the youth along with the society, everyone will have to take initiative towards drug de-addiction.

However, the rapid spread of drug mafia in the state is alarming! We all need to fight against the menace, otherwise the situation seems out of control.

 

Every year, 26 June UNODC observes International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking “to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free of drug abuse. “This year the theme of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is People first: stop stigma and discrimination, strengthen prevention.The aim of this year’s campaign is to raise awareness about the importance of treating people who use drugs with respect and empathy; providing evidence-based, voluntary services for all; offering alternatives to punishment; prioritizing prevention; and leading with compassion. The campaign also aims to combat stigma and discrimination against people who use drugs by promoting language and attitudes that are respectful and non-judgmental (UN).
