Police is not guilty of killing son, only a man…’, said Nahel’s mother amid violence in France

Large-scale riots have erupted across France since the death of 17-year-old teenager Nahel M on Tuesday (27 June) in Paris. Nahel M was shot dead by the police during a traffic checking in Paris. Meanwhile, French police arrested more than 1,300 people on Saturday (July 1) during the fourth night of riots before the funeral of a teenager of Algerian and Moroccan origin.

Nahel M’s mother Mounia expressed displeasure over the riots that followed her son’s death. He also refused to blame the police for his son’s murder. Instead he held a man responsible for taking his son’s life. She said, ‘I blame a person who took my son’s life.’

The news of the death of a boy of Algerian and Moroccan origin spread like a fire across the country. After this, outrage spread throughout the country. Although police officers initially hid information about Nahel, the public soon learned that he was a boy of Algerian origin. To deal with the riots that spread in the country, the French President Macron deployed 45,000 police officers as well as armored vehicles overnight. Due to this, the President also postponed the state visit to Germany which was to start on Sunday (July 2) due to the ongoing unrest.

According to the lawyer of the victim’s family, Nahel M used to work as a delivery man. He was also a boy interested in sports. He used to work to make the youth of his area aware of sports. His favorite sport was rugby.

Nahel had no criminal record. Police said that Nahel had tried to drive recklessly. Regarding this, the eyes of the French police were fixed on him. While the boy had also left school and his acquaintances say that Nahel M was not a big dacoit.
