The nature has its natural mechanism to form, deform, reform, dissolve, create and destroy. Everything which has been created naturally by the Earth, has a way to dissolve to its source. From the journey from a seed to becoming a tree, there is nothing which goes waste. Everything and anything on the Earth, created by the earth has a capacity to assimilate with the needs of the Earth.

Unfortunately, this theory of nature does not apply in case of plastic. Since it is artificial and does not have capacity to deform and reform on its own. It has become a horrendous problem on the Earth and all the living beings on the Earth. This Plastic is behaving like a demon which is spreading very fast, killing the earth and also the creatures on it.

Plastic pollution is killing! It is growing like a monster which is expanding with a very fast rate.

It says, “An estimated 19-23 million tonnes of plastic waste are dumped in lakes, rivers and seas annually.” We all need to come together not just to be aware about the problem but should know how to beat the problem. This year, the theme of UNEP is #BeatPlasticPollution. This year on completion of 50th World Environment Day2023, it is “to raise the volume on the call for governments, cities and businesses to invest in and implement solutions to ending plastic pollution.”

World Environment Day2023 is hosted by Côte d’Ivoire in partnership with the Netherlands.

Every year, the World Environment Day is marked annually on 5 June. Since 1973 from its first world environment day to its 50th, this year, the campaign is led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). In fifty years, the World Environment Day has become one of the biggest “global platforms for environmental outreach, with millions of people across the world engaging to protect the planet”.

“The African Development Bank, based in Abidjan, has long supported Côte d’Ivoire to celebrate World Environment Day. This has a particular resonance this year, on the event’s 50th anniversary, with Côte d’Ivoire as the global host.

The Bank supported several activities, such as beach cleaning in Grand Bassam on Saturday 3 June, and a panel discussion and an exhibition of solutions to plastic pollution will be hosted in Abidjan on Monday 5 June.”
