Removed chapters related to Hedgewar-Savarkar, anti-conversion law also cancelled; Protest against the decision of Karnataka Govt

It has not even been a month since the Siddaramaiah-led government came to power in Karnataka, but the work of reversing the decisions of the previous government has started at a rapid pace. The Karnataka cabinet took several major decisions in its meeting held on Thursday, overturning the decisions of the previous government. The present Congress government has decided to repeal the anti-conversion law. The previous BJP government had brought an anti-conversion law in the state. Political ruckus has also started on the decisions of the Siddaramaiah cabinet.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has responded by calling the Karnataka government anti-Hindu. Former Karnataka Education Minister BC Nagesh said that they (Congress) want votes of Muslims, Siddaramaiah government is against Hindus. They said they might reintroduce the hijab. They want to attract minority votes and want to politicize everything.

Chapters related to Hedgewar-Savarkar will be removed

Siddaramaiah’s cabinet has approved the repeal of the anti-conversion law and the removal of chapters on RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar and Hindutva ideologue VD Savarkar from the school curriculum. The Karnataka cabinet on Thursday approved amendments to the syllabus of Kannada and social science for classes 6 to 10 in the state. Also decided to remove chapters focusing on Hedgewar and Savarkar, among others. In contrast, the Siddaramaiah government will include Nehru’s letters to Savitribai Phule, Indira Gandhi and poetry on BR Ambedkar in the curriculum.

The Preamble of the Constitution must be read in schools

Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil informed about the decisions of the cabinet. Minister HK Patil said that the cabinet has decided to repeal the anti-conversion law brought by the previous BJP government. HK Patil informed that the state cabinet has also decided to make it mandatory to read the Preamble of the Constitution along with Prayer in schools and colleges. He said that the Karnataka cabinet has also decided to amend the APMC Act in the state to bring back the old law.
