Eye on reducing dependence on Russia in defense sector
India has long been one of the largest importers of arms globally. Still India is included in the top countries of this list. According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), India was the world’s largest arms importer between 2018 and 2022. During this period India’s arms import was about 11% percent of the world’s total imports. India has bought maximum arms from Russia and France is second in terms of supplying arms to India. We depend on Russia for more than half of our military equipment. As a new option, there can be no better country than France, which not only does defense cooperation, but is also cooperating in technology.
